Despite the rainy weather last weekend, the BEC Youth Volunteers were all excited to attend the Team Building and Planning Session organized by the Office of the Religious Affairs last September 14, 2019 with the theme, ‘ Using One’s Gifts in Serving Others’ (1 Peter 4:10).
A total of 18 youth volunteers actively participated in all the activities facilitated by Mrs. Irene B. Gopez, the Coordinator for Campus Ministry, and by Ms. Janine Vasquez, the Campus Minister of the school. Before the start of the activities, the participants were divided into four groups and were asked to come up with their group’s yell. This was followed by the ‘Power of One’ activity that aimed to assess the unity of the group, and the ‘Lost Animal’, which gave emphasis to the groups’ coordination and listening skills. The third activity for the team building tested the ability of the group members to follow directions and to cooperate. Before lunch, Fr. Raymund Jose, O.P., the Director for Religious Affairs, gave a very short yet very meaningful message to the youth volunteers as he asked them to remain ‘humble servants’ of God for the other learners of UST Angelicum. During lunch, the youth volunteers experienced the ‘Monk’s Meal’, wherein they served food to their partner first before they ate their own lunch.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Gopez presented ‘The Heart of the Youth Volunteer’ to the youth volunteers and discussed to them the qualities they must possess in order to serve the community. Ms. Vasquez, on the other hand, explained the skills they need in order to facilitate the faith-sharing. The whole-day activity was capped by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, which was presided by Rev. Fr. Arden Dacuma, O.P., the Chaplain of the Basic Education Department.
